US CRUA 2.0 TDI EA288 Tuning Guide

US CRUA 2.0 TDI EA288 Tuning Guide

The CRUA engine makes around +30 BHP with a custom tune (without the need for hardware upgrades) - You can find more information about tuning below see the "Powergate Remote tuning section".

If you want to delete the emissions controls, check the kits below.

For more power, we have 2 main options, the first is fitting our 200 BHP turbo upgrade and tuning.

For those who want more we also have a large turbo kit that will max out your stock fuel system around 230-240 BHP and with some supporting modifications will go on to as much as 250-260 BHP

See hardware upgrades below.

Emissions Control Removal:

Before removing any of the emissions controls please first check your local laws regarding this before removing / disabling them.

These EA288 engines use a low pressure EGR system "SCR", and also has high pressure EGR valve in the intake manifold.

The high pressure EGR valve is mapped completely closed in the software, both the low pressure EGR (SCR) DPF and Catalyst are removed with this kit)

Turbo upgrade:

Generally speaking the bolt on turbo upgrade and emissions deletes with around 200 BHP will satisfy most owners, but some will require more.

We have a complete turbo kit with a selection of much larger turbos, the GTB2260VK for example is the turbo of choice for 2.0 engines with a power goal of 250 - 270 BHP.

Please note: Above 200 BHP, and with the GTB2260VK turbo upgrade we recommend upgrading the head bolts, the stock head bolts are made from 10.2 tensile steel and with extra power from the large turbo will stretch, causing head lift.
The head bolt upgrade we sell are higher tensile (12.9) and should prevent the head lift associated with the original (10.2) tensile standard bolts.

Fuel System:

The CP4 fuel pump will max out around 260 BHP, our CP4 Metering valve will help to make a little extra power if you have enough boost, so around +10 BHP more with a large turbo like the GTB2260VK.

The CP3 Fuel pump conversion is the way forward if you want to make some serious power, it will be required if you want to make more than 240+ BHP reliably and is generally much more reliable and durable than the CP4 pump.

If you want to exceed 200-210 BHP you will need larger injectors too.

Transmission / Clutch:

The stock 6 speed DMF kit will be the best option for customers who don't want to exceed 240 - 250 BHP.

Around 240-250 BHP the clutch will start to slip and will need a replacement, customers who have the 6 speed DSG transmission will require the DSG tuning (clutch pressure needs increasing to hold the extra power.)

Please note: for customers who do have the DSG transmission, this is not yet supported by Powergate remote tuning, you will need to get someone local to do the DSG tuning for you.

For anything above 230 BHP we would recommend the Sachs race DMF kit (it's perfect for 230-300 BHP) and feel similar to a stock clutch when you select the option for the organic disc, just with a heavier pedal feel from the increased clamping pressure.

There are a few flywheel options on these engines so we recommend contacting us with the VIN number so we can ensure you get the correct kit.

Remote tuning:

Even if you're 5000 miles away we can still tune your vehicle remotely using our Powergate system.

For a price for Powergate tuning you'll need to create an account and enter your VIN / Chassis number. The tunes we supply are not generic and are still tailored to each ECU. This does mean we will require adequate data logs from the vehicle in order to achieve the best results. You will also need a working VCDS / VAG-COM in order to send us adequate data logs.

Check out the links below for more information on Powergate system.

Please note: You do not need access to VCDS if you don't require custom tuning (If you are just using the Powergate to remove the DPF / EGR in the in the software.)
