Donington Park - 7th April 2019 - MSV Trackday Trophy
Following on from the Trackday Championship Blog, we were also competing in the MSV Trackday Trophy.
The qualifying session was in the morning a few hours after the TDC session. I went out first, did the 3 mandatory laps, punched in a decent time (putting us P2 behind the Class C Lotus Elise of J & B Tucker with a 1:21.503) and then pulled into the pits to get Ryan out, since he had not driven the car all day.
Ryan went out and did some very consistent times, but was unable to improve our position. Late into the session the Class B BMW Compact of James Gunn-Carter put in an incredible lap time of 1:21.165, demoting us to 3rd position. Looking at the VBOX footage and data, Ryan managed an ideal time of 1:21.00, which would have put is pole, but he was held up for 3 laps by the Renault Clio of R & J Honeybone.
Scott's Fastest Qualifying Lap - 1:21.70
Ryan's Fastest Qualifying Lap - 1:22.03
The race was not until very late (17:35) and the weather was looking ominous. As we lined up in the assembly area, it started to drizzle. We made the decision to go to a partial wet setup just in case it continued.
Around 15 minutes late, we pulled round to the grid. No Green Flag Lap, Cold Tyres and some light rain = First corner spin and a T-Bone!
Luckily the custom Roll Cage did its job, with the door bar taking most of the impact. The door would not open, so I have to get out of the passenger side.
Upon assessment back at Darkside HQ, the car needs jigging, as well as a new door, new sill, driveshafts, steering rack, hub and shock absorber, plus whatever else we find when the car is stripped!
One consolation is that Dylan in the Darkside tuned, Moores Motors supported Ibiza made a fantastic start, going from 14th to 5th in 1 corner! He then made his way up to 2nd and kept the position for the rest of the race. So a 1st and 2nd Place for two TDI Ibizas. Fantastic Result!
13 - Dylan BRYCHTA - Seat Ibiza TDI
