GOOD BYE SWIRL FLAPS!!! - AUDI A5 3.0 TDI QUATTRO PROJECT
Prevention is cheaper than the cure...
Although not massively common on these engines, we have seen many swirl flaps get ingested by the engines causing dire consequences. We discussed them at length in our previous blog post Killer Swirl Flaps
As we will be pushing this 3.0 TDI engine pretty hard, we thought it would be a good idea to remove the flaps to prevent any possible problems in the future.
To makes things even easier we have put together a full kit (listed below) and annotated this video, so it can also be used as a guide. Most customers will also remove the EGR at the same time. We have retained ours temporarily whilst testing the difference in warm up with with EGR on and off.
Remember that the DPF must be removed if you remove the EGR, otherwise it won't regenerate and will block pretty quickly.
When you delete the Swirl Flaps and Actuators, there will be fault codes stored in the ECU. A warning light may also appear on the dashboard. This would need to be deleted in the ECU. It cannot be done in VAG-COM (VCDS). At the same time as a custom remap, we remove these faults Free of Charge.
