Balance Shaft Delete Sprocket for VAG 2.0 TFSI EA113 Petrol Engines

The OE sprocket driving the balance shaft on the EA113 engines is commonly known for failing. High mileage and revving the engine hard are two factors that mainly cause this failure. The balance shaft rotates at twice the engine rev speed, so as you can imagine, when revving the engine over 6/7000 revs, it's going to be under a lot of strain.

When the OE sprocket fails, it is highly likely to cause damage to the chain, which drives the oil pump. If this happens, it can casue a lot of damage to other parts of the vehicles engine, so this preventative measure is highly recommended!

    • There are two ways to perform the balance shaft delete on these engines.

    You can either leave the original chain in place, making the process much easier and requires less parts but upon stripping down to perform the delete, it may become apparant that the chain also requires replacement.
